l am talking about the retainers for PIERCINGS. i do not get it... why are they called retainers? why not just be called labrets, because that is what they are [[except that they are generally made out of plastic]], right?
this is what l am talking about: labrets: http://hottopic.com/hottopic/store/nodePage.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302028418&PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524442171948&bmUID=1222233266616 'retainers': http://hottopic.com/hottopic/store/nodePage.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302028423&PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524442171948&bmUID=1222233280825

They are too keep your piercing from closing. Or to make them less noticeable for weddings, interviews, etc.

Retainers are jewelry that kind of hides the piercing, to make it look like you do not have the piercing but it wo not close at the same time. l am not sure why they're called retainers but they all have different shapes for different piercings, so no they can not all be called labrets.

They are meant to make piercings less visible, while 'retaining' the hole.
They are not called labrets because they aren't. You can get retainers that are also labret posts, but they also come in many different styles, like curved barbells.
